I’ve got a confession to make…. I am a HUGE Stormlight Archives series fan!

So today, in honor of the 4th book, Rhythm of War, being released today, I’m bringing you some simple, free Stormlight Archives printables!

If you’re a fantasy fan, then you should really give author of the Stormlight Archives, Brandon Sanderson, a shot! He’s very prolific, and unlike certain other authors (cough Patrick Rothfuss cough), he steadily works on his series, releasing each new book in a more than reasonable amount of time.

Bonus points if you’re a parent: all of the books are super clean! I happen to love listening to books on Audible, so that I can have something fun to do while I’m doing chores. So, I know that when I’m listening to this author, I can dive into a new book without worrying what my kids will hear.

Anyway, if you’re in the market for a new fantasy book, I highly recommend this series! Here’s a link to the first book, The Way of Kings.

Spoiler alert! If you haven’t read The Way of Kings, this next bit is a bit of a spoiler, though not a huge one.

Alright, fangirling aside, I happen to love the message that is emphasized in the first book of this series.

Let’s just take the first phrase: Life Before Death.

As I write this, we’re in the midst of the biggest pandemic in a century. Because of this situation, our family has been in a weird kind of limbo for the last half year. If has been difficult for me to find meaning in my day to day life sometimes.

This phrase, though, life before death, encourages us to make sure we are living now. It encourages us to make our life worth living right now, no matter our circumstances.

The main protagonist in the book, Kaladin, is going through a crisis when he first hears this phrase. Life has been so hard on him. Both because of his own actions and because of the actions of those around him, Kaladin is just so weary in body and soul. I think we can relate to that!

When he hears this phrase, it brings back purpose in to his life. It gives him new hope, and it literally ushers in a pivotal change in his life. Of course he doesn’t magically become perfect, but as he internalizes the message, he shows some real strength of character.

When I see these Stormlight Archives printables, I see the opportunity to recommit to a better attitude every day.

Life before death.

Strength before weakness.

Journey before destination.

I hope these beautifully phrased lines can help us recommit to doing better today than we did yesterday. To not give up even though times are most definitely tough. To make sure that we appreciate the journey, even when we can see past the turn ahead.

Things in my life this year have not gone anywhere near the way I planned them. In the midst of it all, my dad gave me some good advice: don’t wait to be happy.

Don’t fall into the trap of “I’ll be happy when…” Sure, some even might help you be happier, but there is always another trial to conquer, or some hurdle to pass. And so, we should try our best to live today. To be strong today. To appreciate today.

And so, I made these printables as much for myself as for you. I hope you enjoy them!
