If there has ever been a year I wanted to escape from, it was 2020. I mean, seriously?
Some people have found a modicum of escape through Cottagecore. Let’s escape together for a moment! If you can close your eyes and read at the same time, then do so and envision this scene with me.
Imagine yourself in a quaint English cottage. The kind with whitewashed walls, dark wood trim, and a thatched roof. Tied to the rafters are drying flowers, filling the air with the scent of lavender and roses. Around you are stacks of vintage books and wicker baskets filled with fresh, sun-warmed laundry. You look through your brightly lit kitchen window to see a garden full of lush bushes, daisies, and a small bench tucked away under a willow tree.
This is Cottagecore. The idea of escaping to an idyllic world devoid of the stress and never-ending busyness of life. This aesthetic is full of vintage florals and rustic textures, bringing you out of the modern world and back into a simpler time.
Doesn’t that just sound divine right now?
In some ways, this idea is close to the Farmhouse style, in that it invokes a more rustic life, but there are a few key differences. To me, farmhouse style is a bit more minimalist, with lots of reclaimed wood and simple signs and florals. Cottagecore brings to mind more coziness and warmth, and even a bit of fantasy if you will. This article from InteriorFun goes into some more details about the differences between the two.
If this kind of look appeals to you, then perhaps you’d like to incorporate it into some crafting! We’ll take a look at some vintage inspired digital papers, some floral clipart, a few cute fonts and more! And, for some reason, mushrooms. Mushrooms are big in Cottagecore. Go figure.
