I love to crochet blankets! The satisfaction you get when you’re cuddling up with your blanket, both while you’re making it and when it’s done, is so real!
Sometimes, though, it’s just not practical to make a big huge project all at once, and that’s why these sampler crochet blanket patterns are so great! Whether you want to crochet on the go, or just want to switch things up and experiment more often, these patterns are perfect for crocheters of all experience levels!
Ok, so not all of these patterns are for individual squares, though most of them are. A special few of these are traditional blankets that just have a ton of different stitches or patterns incorporated into the blanket. If your goal in making a sampler blanket is just to experiment with some new stitches, then these blankets will still work perfectly.
A lot of these patterns are available as one simple download with the pattern for each square all in one pdf. Others, however, are designed as crochet-alongs or CALs, so the patterns for the individual squares might be in different posts. For these ones I made sure to only include CALs that have all of the patterns easily accessible from one main page.
This post contains products that I not only do I promote, but I believe in! If you click through my links, I may receive a small commission from anything you might purchase, at no additional cost to you! I hope you enjoy these products as much as I do, and thanks for supporting my blog!
Without further ado, my favorite sampler crochet blanket patterns!

First up is a fun crochet along! If you’ve never heard of a crochet along, then you’re in for a treat. Someone, usually a blogger, will post a series of crochet blocks for their followers to do together. This particular CAL has tons of great patterns, so pick your favorite colors and off you go!
I’m a total sucker for a white blanket. I love the simplicity of this blanket. It has repeating squares, which gives this particular sampler a very cohesive look, no matter what colors you choose.
What makes this blanket unique is that the squares are all granny squares, that is, squares that are worked from the meddle out, instead of from bottom to top. I love these types of squares, because you can easily customize the size of your squares just by adding an extra row around the outside. Simple!
Why is this called a fisherman sampler throw? I have no clue. If you know, please tell me, because now I’m super curious. In the meantime, enjoy a fun sampler crochet blanket pattern, and just try not to think too hard about the name.
I love the variety in this sampler crochet blanket pattern. It has both granny squares and beautiful traditional rows pulling it all together. The tri-color scheme really pulls it together, don’t you think?
This awesome blanket is one giant granny square! I love it! It is so easy to customize the size of a granny square it’s not even funny. Decide that the blanket for this pattern is too small? No problem! Just pick your favorite stitches and add a few more rows.
This fun series of granny squares has tons of user submissions!
Pick your favorite coordinating colors, and off you go!
I just love the name “scrapghan” for this kind of project! Isn’t it clever? These squares are perfect scrap busters, but feel free to hunt for the perfect colors if you feel inspired!
This fun stripey blanket has tons of different stitches to play with! The pattern is very informal, with a lot of wiggle room and space for improvisation. Have fun!
Three colors, ten stitches, twenty squares: crochet two squares a month and snuggle under a finished Afghan Sampler in one year! Or, you know, you could do it faster. But still! If you’re busy, it’s nice to know that a project like this is easy to accomplish.
This sampler crochet blanket pattern has a whopping 24 different patterns! Some sampler blankets repeat squares to make it simpler for both you and the author, but not this one. Get ready to learn a whole bunch of new patterns, and maybe even find a new favorite!
Ok y’all, so this one is a mix of free and paid. There is a paid pdf pattern (which would probably be super helpful for those new to mosaic crochet. But, there is also a free youtube series which walks you through each of the different moasic patterns, if you’re feeling confident.
Isn’t this blanket just gorgeous? I’ve honestly never seen anything quite like it! If you’re looking for a real challenge with some stunning results, this mosaic is for you!
This blanket is full of fun and unique squares!
This blanket pattern comes from the Scheepjes website, so there are some really great pre-selected color schemes you can purchase from their site. But don’t worry, you can still pick your own colors or make this a scrap buster. Just scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page to find the free pattern download!
This is actually one of my favorite blankets in this list. I can’t decide which part I like best: the colors, or the unique vintage and nature inspired squares. They’re just gorgeous! If you’re into the whole cottagecore aesthetic, I think this pattern would work perfectly!
This diverse blanket 40 unique squares! Isn’t that crazy!
To access the free patterns, scroll down to the end of the post (not the end of the page) and find the free patterns organized by month. You’ll have to go to other pages to find the individual square patterns, but if you don’t mind site-hopping a little bit, then this blanket would be a ton of fun!

This pattern is for tunisian crochet! I’ve just started to learn tunisian crochet, so this sampler pattern looks oh so tempting right now! The square patterns are listed in order from easiest to hardest, so it’s great for beginners to learn as you go!
This sampler just screams vintage to me. The puffy stiches plus the creamy yellow take you back in time!
This afghan pattern is unique for many reasons. It has a lot of lacy square patterns, giving the finished blanket even more texture than your average sampler. It also has a metric ton of patterns. 63 unique squares! Isn’t that crazy? Have fun doing each square, or mix and match them in any way you please.
The pattern for this one is a little difficult to get, so you’ll have to really be persistent. Scroll down to the comments section where you’ll see the author directs you to sources to buy either the physical or digital magazine subscription, then an email address to make sure you get the right edition for this specific pattern. So, make sure you get the correct edition, then either keep the subscription or cancel it.
Complicated, right? But if it’s worth it, it’s worth it!
Sampler blankets are so versatile, and that’s part of what makes them so fun. I happen to not love the colors in this blanket, but who cares! Use whatever colors you want!
I love the Valentine’s Day feel of this sampler. The striped border around the edge pulls the blanket together, giving it a cohesive, finished feeling.
This tunisian crochet sampler has 35 unique squares! There’s value in a pattern that repeats squares, as that give the blanket a cohesive look, but there’s something just so fun about a blanket that has a ton of different patterns. That’s the point of a sampler anyway, right? Have fun with this massive blanket project!
This is another tunisian crochet pattern. I know there are a lot of these tunisian patterns, but I’m really in love with this style!
I hope you’ve enjoyed looking through these sampler crochet blanket patterns as much as I’ve enjoyed collecting them! Now I have a place to come back and look through ideas just for myself!
Happy crocheting!
