Mkay you guys. This is my life right now. This “Snack dealer, Mom life” SVG is really what my life feels liek sometimes. With a 5, 3 and 1 year old, my like is all snacks, all the time.

I saw this cute little idea on Pinterest sometime this last spring, when parents were still trying to find their new normal with kids in quarantine.

It showed this picture perfect line of three baskets, each with a different child’s name on it. Inside the baskets were a small variety of snacks, like mandarin oranges, baked chips, or whatever else healthy things I don’t remember anymore.

The idea of the basket was that the kids each have one basket of snacks. This is all they get. They get to decide when they eat these snacks, but once they’re gone, then no more snacks that day.

My first thought was, “Wow, that mom is so on top of things! I wish I could be like that!” I should totally do something like that, and then my kids wouldn’t whine at me for snacks all day!

And then I envisioned what would really happen.

Here’s how it would go down.

I get these cute baskets, and put all kinds of yummy, healthy things in there. I explain the rules to my kids, including an explicit, “So no whining at Mommy for more snacks” clause at the end.

My kids promptly eat all of it. Right after breakfast, when they’re not even that hungry.

Then at 10:30 my 3 year old would come up to me with a plaintive “Mommy, I’m hungry.” To which I would reply that I gave her plenty of snacks, and she ate all of them, but we’ll be having lunch soon enough.

Whining ensues.

Followed by reminders that Mommy said no whining and whining isn’t going to get you what you want.

The 5 year old then comes up with “Mommy can I have a snack, too??” No honey, I just told your sister we’ll be having lunch soon. Go drink some water.

Then lunch would come, and along with it, blessed relief from the whining.

Until about 2:00, when they’re both asking for snacks again. 🙄

At that point I’d sit them down with a plate full of animal crackers and a generous sprinkling of chocolate chips and just give up for the day.

And that cute little Pinterest idea went way off the rails before it even started. Can anyone else relate?

So, here I am, the dispenser of snacks. And you know what? I’m good with that. Embrace the mom life!
