Ultimate List! 40+ of the Best Crochet Blanket Patterns!

Crocheting is one of my favorite hobbies ever! I especially love making crochet blankets.

Is there such a thing as too many blankets? Well, yes. Yes there is.

But I’ll make them anyway, because they are so relaxing to make! I love the repetition of the patterns, which becomes so natural after a few rows.

One of my favorite traditions is crocheting a baby blanket for each of my kids while I’m pregnant.

Smiley’s blanket was my most ambitious by far. It was a Corner to Corner gingham pattern, and it turned out just gorgeous!

Weaving in those ends was not my favorite, though. There were SO MANY of them! I may or may not actually be done with that part…

I’d like to share with you some of my absolute favorite crochet blanket patterns. Most of them are free, but some are paid. They’re so gorgeous, they’re totally worth it though! Please keep in mind that some of the prices might be outdated, but they should still be ballpark.

Some of them are full blanket patterns, while others are just pretty stitches, and others are granny square patterns which you would sew together to form a blanket.

I hope you love them as much as I do!

Crochet Blankets for Babies

I just love baby blankets. We have way too many of them… And yet we do not have enough of them!

We use them for our babies, obviously, but as my babies have grown, they love to play with them!

They’re the perfect size for capes and mini forts, and of course they love to wrap their stuffed animals in them.

Here are some ideas for cute baby blankets, perfect for yourself or as a gift!

Granny Square Crochet Blankets

Granny squares are just so much fun to make.

One reason I love them so much is that the size of the blanket is easily customizable. No need to worry about pattern repetitions or getting the size wrong the first time.

Just make as many squares as you want, then rearrange to your heart’s desire.

A good thing to keep in mind, especially with granny squares/motifs, is that the more detailed the motif, the smaller weight yarn you’ll want to use.

This first example below is a great example of this. The details of the mandala and the way it lays flat would not be possible with a larger weight yarn.

Well, let me amend by saying it wouldn’t be nearly as pretty. Possible, but not quite the same.

Anyway, on to the good stuff!

Sophie’s Dream Blanket
Free! This more difficult pattern uses tiny fingering-weight yarn, but it is just so gorgeous!
Felicita’s Afghan Square
Free! I love the intricate design of this square! It’s a bit on the more difficult side, though.
Amazing Star Squares

Owl Obsession
$5.99 – Isn’t this owl crochet blanket just too cute? It uses octagon and square shaped motifs to achieve a truly unique design!

Happy Hexagons
Free! I love the hexagon motifs, with a more minimalist twist!
Spin Your Granny Square Blanket
$6.01 – This crochet blanket is a great classic granny with a twist! I really like the diagonal design.
Casablanca Crochet Square
Free! This square has a few intermediate level stitches, but it has lots of pictures and explanations I think an adventurous beginner would do well with!
Origami Flower
Free! This is a timeless flower motif, which I think would pair great with other minimalist designs.
Ditzy Daisy
$2.98 – This is such a sweet little granny square. Use this as a full blanket, or combine it with simpler square to add a little interest.

Victorian Lattice Square
Free! I love this pattern for its elegant simplicity.
Coral Story Blanket

Peppermint Throw
Free! This is the best Christmas throw ever! Just sayin’.

Traditional Crochet Blankets

There’s something about a traditional blanket that’s just so relaxing to make.

Many of these patterns repeat just a few rows over and over, making them easy to remember. Sometimes I just don’t want to keep checking a pattern, you know?

Sit back, watch TV or listen to an audiobook, maybe even grab a (not messy) snack, and just watch as a beautiful blanket unfolds before your eyes.

Others of these patterns are more intricate. Not difficult, necessarily, but they do require some attention.

In some ways, these patterns are more satisfying. Imagine how you’ll feel at the very end as you finish that last row! So beautiful!

I hope you enjoy these gorgeous patterns, too!

The Bakewell Blanket
Free! This is a fairly easy pattern, with high quality results. I love the yarn choice for this example, too!
Charlotte’s Sunshine Baby Blanket
Free! I love the vintage feel of this throw. If it’s not clear by now, I love neutrals, and I really like how the gray sets off the cream pattern.
The Wool Eater Blanket
Free! This crochet blanket pattern is worked from the middle out, meaning you can easily make it as large or small as you want!
Nya Infinity Mosaic Blanket
Free! One great thing about this blanket pattern is how versatile the background colors are, and how that will change the whole feel of the pattern!
Spin Me Around
Free! My favorite thing about this crochet blanket pattern is the expanding spiral in the center. It makes a cool pattern when the other lines are added!
Lotus Flower Blanket
Free! My first thought when I looked at this was, “Cool! A watermelon blanket!” Close, but not quite. I love the lacy pattern!

Free! Imagine this crochet blanket in a velvety soft faux fur yarn… I’m drifting off to sleep just imagining cuddling in it!

Free! I love the class of this pattern. It feels like something I’d want to display!
Corner to Corner Blanket
Free! Here’s a Corner 2 Corner crochet blanket for you! The instructions aren’t super clear, so doing a quick YouTube search for how to get started will save you a lot of confusion. Keep at it, though, because this style of blanket is so much fun!
Aran Green Cables Blanket
$5.50 – This is one of my favorite patterns. I love the pretty, delicate cables!
Ocean Waves Crochet Blanket
Free! This one is a simple pattern that repeats just every two rows. I love the tassels, too!

That’s all for now!

Just writing this post is making me itch to sit down with some brand new yarn (not that I need any…) and get started on one of these blankets!

Which one would you do first? Let me know!
